Lives and works in Timișoara

Gavril Pop (b. 1998, Timișoara, lives and works in Timișoara) work revolves around creating a visual language through recurring signs and patterns. Guided by subconscious impulses, he explores and reconfigures these elements to form new meanings and stories. Using recycled materials like book covers, maps, and discarded paper, Pop gives them new life, combining pre-existing marks with his own geometric shapes and symbols. His process aims to turn these signs into visual sentences, reflecting a continuous exploration of meaning, narrative, and self-interpretation.

Gavril Pop holds a Bachelor’s degree in Painting and a Master’s degree in Heritage, Restoration, and Curatorial Studies from West University of Timișoara. Gavril Pop is actively involved in the Timișoara art scene, working as a curator, project writer, cultural mediator, archivist, and writer of critical texts for publications. He frequently collaborates with independent art spaces, foundations, and associations, contributing to exhibitions and cultural mediation programs. Among recent exhibitions he took part in: 2024 – Variables as Absence of Uniformity, Stockholm (group show); 2023 – The Twist. Five Provincial Stories from an Empire, Kunsthalle Bega, Timișoara; 1:1, Ivan Gallery, Bucharest (duo show with Giulia Crețulescu); 2022 – If a Story is Present, Art Encounters Foundation, Timișoara (group show).
