Ivan Gallery has the pleasure to invite you to the opening of Horia Bernea’s Acuarele / Watercolours show in which watercolour paintings and a sketchbook made between 1999-2000 will be exhibited. The event will take place on Saturday, September 20 at 5:00 p.m.

The artworks to be exhibited may be considered as a „series” even if their „seriality” is not as explicit as in the case of other series asserted as such by the artist (Coloană / Column, Grădină / Garden, Interior de biserică / Church Interior). By including here occasionally motifs relating to these well-known series, Horia Bernea problematizes again and again, trying not only to set forth but also to „solve”. An oval figurative form brings together („constrains”) the bi-dimensionality and the citation of the perspectival construction, the plan drawing and the materiality, the sign and the representation. „It was about this: about trying to combine things impossible to combine and attitudes impossible to reconcile; a kind of retrieval through which a theme is pushed beyond any limit of bearing.” (Horia Bernea interviewed by Anca Oroveanu, 1997).

This first Horia Bernea solo show hosted by The Ivan Gallery will be open between September 23 and November 14 (Thursday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.).
